The focus of coaching during & post-treatment is to allow the change process to be honest, realistic and sustainable at each stage of recovery. Just as the principals of exercise physiology must be applied to the body in motion in order to increase flexibility or build strength, psychological awareness must be applied to real life tasks and choices in order for change to be demonstrated and experienced.
Patience, assertiveness, gratefulness, and acceptance are important recovery milestones that are taken to task in the coaching relationship. Treatment is not a conversion experience. Recovered is not a destination point. Change is the process of becoming of different. Recovery is an ongoing commitment to a lifetime of renewal and growth.
